Guests for Christmas?

Christmas is a busy time for everyone but add getting a home ready for guests and your 'To-Do' list suddenly reaches hair pulling proportions and stress levels rocket. This is why Coast Home Services has designed the Pre-Christmas Spruce Up; we concentrate on thoroughly cleaning the 'public' areas of your home i.e. your guest bedrooms and bathrooms, the kitchen, dining and sitting rooms and spruce-up other areas that can remain as they are until your January Spring Clean.

You don't need to do it all, sometimes your time is worth more than the cost of outsourcing tasks that can easily be done by other people. Santa should be the only person with a list as long as his arm and let's face it, he has an army of elves to help him tick all the boxes.

You also deserve to enjoy the festive season, so book your Pre-Christmas Spruce Up now and we'll give you a half price January Spring clean to help get your home back to normal.

Prepare for spills!

If you're entertaining a lot of people over Christmas and New Year there are bound to be spills and breaks. If you're organised it shouldn't mean the ruin of your expensive wool carpet or favourite sofa.

Cleaning stains as soon as they happen is the best way to ensure they don't embed into the fabric. Whichever cleaning solution you use; liquid spills such as wine, pet urine or coffee; needs to be soaked up before you apply your solution. Follow these easy steps:

Soak Up and Blot
Apply Cleaning Solution

Leave for 5 minutes

Rinse with clean cold water

Cover with a paper towel to dry

If you have an emergency cleaning kit ready to grab, you'll be prepared. Fill a caddy with specialist cleaning products of your choice or use natural remedies such as white wine vinegar. Add, paper towels and disposable gloves and you'll be ready for everything your guests throw at you and your home!

Tried and Trusted Natural Cleaning Solutions

Whilst our favourite products are Eco and Method, sometimes natural products will do the job just as well. Here are some tried and tested recipes:

Pet Stains/Wine/Dirt/Grass

2 Tablespoons White Wine Vinegar

4 cups warm water

Blood

1/4 teaspoon mild liquid detergent with one cup warm water.

Felt-tip Marker

1/4 teaspoon mild liquid detergent with one cup warm water.

Shoe Polish

1/4 teaspoon mild liquid detergent with one cup warm water.

Natural Room Freshener

Pick some sprigs of fresh Pine and add to a clean spray bottle filled with mineral water and one or two drops of Pine essential oil. Put to one side for a week or so to allow the water to take on the Pine scent. You can also do this with citrus peels of orange, lemons and grapefruit and of course lavender; either on their own or mixed they make wonderful, natural scents. For a natural Christmas scent, use a combination of cinnamon oil, pine and orange. Essential oils are now available at our shop Dapper & Green in Melton Constable. Don't forget essential oils are extremely potent and should be kept out of the reach of children and pets.
